True Heart Therapy

for genuine healing

Hi, It’s nice to meet you.

I’m Brandie Lyday, and i’m glad you are here.

You’ve made the decision to research therapists and here we are. It’s important for me to let you know I am an anti-racist ally and work to promote equity in everything I do. I also need you to know that I believe healing, transformation, and growth is possible for everyone.

What can you expect as my client: Deep understanding, advocacy, reframing, identification of patterns, exploring meaning, gentle challenges, respect that you know yourself best, and support discerning what is helpful to you.

Who am I outside of therapy: Oregonian born and raised in Idaho. Pre-pandemic I enjoyed good outdoor seating at restaurants and attending as many Blazer games as possible. During the pandemic, I’ve enjoyed time at home with my dog, Marshall (he’s the bestest boy) and soaking up the sun in my backyard hammock.

training

I hold a Master’s degree in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy from Lewis & Clark College. I have significant training with gambling addiction and it’s impact on families. I hold the highest level of credentials to work with those suffering from both gambling and substance addiction.

experience

I’ve been working with clients for a decade. I have worked in community mental health at the county level for 8 years and helped many clients with co-occurring disorders and those mandated to treatment as a stipulation of probation. I have worked with folx of all  backgrounds individually, as couples, families, and groups.

ideal clients

I love working with those seeking recovery from addiction (both substance and/or behavioral addictions) and their loved ones. I also work with those suffering from depression, anxiety, and trauma responses. I usually work with multiple people within a family unit individually and relationally depending on their needs.

Hard at work

Marshall is a three-year-old Border Collie/Australian Shepard/Cattle Dog mix. He is working on becoming a certified therapy dog. He’s a lover of attention, smelling everything, and frisbees.

What am I learning?

Marshie is very smart and will learn anything if there are hot dogs involved. He has completed Puppy Agility coursework and training for his Novice Trick Dog title.

tricks i know

  • Basics: Sit, Down, Stand, Come, Break, Drop it, Go to your place, Jump up
  • Shake, Bow, Sit Pretty, Paws Up on arm, Spin, Roll Over, Find it
  • Working on:
    • Wait (don’t leave me!)
    • Belly (on command vs spontaneously)
    • Not scaring nice delivery people at the front door

Marshall and therapy

Sometimes Marshall makes an appearance on camera. He may want to check in on you just to say you are doing a great job! He knows how hard it is to heal because he’s experienced that first hand as a rescue pup.

Marshall was a 4-month street puppy when he was found and brought to Oregon for adoption. He was an over-excited puppy with separation anxiety and terrified of being caged. Through the hard work of positive reinforcement, consistency, and belly rubs, Marshall is healing and safe to be a silly dog.
