Hi, it's nice to meet you!

I'm Jennifer Knutson, and I'm glad you're here.

What is a fun fact about myself?

I have a habit of connecting conversations to songs, TV shows, or movies—and it often takes a lot of self-restraint not to sing a lyric or quote a favorite line mid-conversation.

What can you expect as my client?

I’ll show up with warmth and compassion as well as a willingness to gently challenge you when it’s needed. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe and supported while also helping you stretch, grow, and move toward the changes you want. I’ll listen closely, ask thoughtful questions, and work with you to understand what’s happening beneath the surface.

Who am I outside of therapy?

Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our cat. In the spring and summer, you’ll often find me working on projects in the yard. In the fall and winter, I’m usually cozy inside, catching up on a good documentary.

How did I become a therapist?

My path to becoming a therapist wasn’t a straight line. I had many different interests growing up, changed my major several times, and explored a variety of jobs. I believe life wanted me to experience a lot before leading me to become a therapist.

I’m also a strong advocate for taking the stigma out of seeking help. Therapy has been an important part of my own life and I strongly believe in the value of having a space where you can be seen, heard, and supported without judgment.

Pronouns: She/Her

Don’t be surprised if you see my cat, Gizmo, pop in my Telehealth sessions. His shirts are cute but they’re actually to help him if he’s stressed. He might chime in once or twice, but most of the time he’s either waiting for his backyard friends or napping in his chair.

Training
Experience
Ideal Clients

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Human Development, with an emphasis in Adult Development, from California State University, East Bay and a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University.

I’m committed to continually expanding my skills to better support my clients. I’ve completed additional training, coursework, and reading to deepen my knowledge in areas such as ADHD, attachment, open relationships, and infidelity.

I have several years of experience in mental health case management, supporting low-income adults as well as families and individuals involved in the foster care system. During the pandemic, I worked in social services, providing social, emotional, and mental health support in a dedicated COVID unit.

Along the way, I discovered how much I value showing up for people during life’s toughest moments. Today, with over two years of experience providing therapy, I bring that same empathy and compassion into my work as a therapist.

While I believe tools like mindfulness and meditation can be helpful, I also know you can find plenty of those online. What I’m really passionate about is helping my clients uncover what’s underneath the anxiety, depression, and worry — the deeper patterns and emotions that need attention and care.

I work best with people who are ready, even if it feels challenging, to dig a little deeper and explore the real roots of what’s going on.

For couples therapy, I’m most effective with partners who are truly committed to their relationship and want to work together.
