Hi, it's nice to meet you!

I'm Sandy Bacharach, and I'm glad you're here.

What is a fun fact about myself?

I’m 4’10”, and I love musical theatre. I’m also fluent in Spanish.

What can you expect as my client?

I will listen deeply, actively, and compassionately, making space for you to unburden yourself with what needs to be shared. I am not afraid to jump in, refocus you, and be directive.

I believe our social locations (socio-political identities) inform the way we see, interact, and/or respond to people and events in our lives.

As a white cis queer middle-aged woman, I have been given access to see the world in a particular way. Whatever your combination of identities, I support you in creating a vision of your world that is meaningful and healing for you.

Who am I outside of therapy?

I’m a TV and podcast junkie who loves to read and go on walks. I like asking the hard questions of my friends, like: What is the difference between a hike and a walk? When was the last time you cried? When was the last time you kissed someone? I have literal jars of Getting to Know You questions that I pop out at dinner parties; I’ve always been a curious cat.

Also, I’m a daughter and a mom.

Pronouns: She/Her

How did I become a therapist?

My work has always been about supporting the needs of my community but, during Covid, I decided it was time to invest in myself and deepen my learning about human psychology which led me to Lewis & Clark’s master’s program in marriage, couple, and family therapy (MCFT). I was drawn to being an MCFT for its focus on relationality – how individuals fit into larger systems and how those same larger systems impact individuals.

Major coursework included theories and practice; couples counseling; diversity and social justice with an emphasis on equity in family therapy, group dynamics, and human sexualities. I’ve also received training in de-escalation, Internal Family Systems, Sexual Attitudes Reassessment, and Treating the What If’s: Understanding & Applying Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP).

I have worked with clients at the Lewis & Clark Community Counseling Clinic and William Temple House. I also run a small business that focuses on racial justice and conflict resolution. I develop and lead educational series on communication and conflict resolution, addressing the intersection of race/racism in mediation, interrupting racism, institutional equity, and practicing pronouns. Concurrent to therapy, I’m a professional mediator and facilitator, with a focus on facilitating white learning spaces to effect systemic change and self-growth.

My ideal client wants to understand who they are in the context of their life and in the context of the larger community around them.

I particularly enjoy working with couples, individuals, mothers and their adult children, and families.
